Fire and smoke detectors program

To the Darby Township community!

Some behind the scene dialogue has started on a fire prevention program that Covid has disrupted. But a great program that already exists that just needs more attention and interaction so the public, local and state agencies can get involved.

My name is Caleb Cox. Private citizen but seen there’s a dire need to prevent fires from claiming lives. Here’s some strong statics from the state. 232 children, 498 older adults and 85 firefighters just in the STATE of OHIO has died from a fire in 2023.

We just left the fire house at Tri County. I have been working on getting donations for the fire house so they can install devices for those in need as they only had one smoke detector in stock.

The parties at the meeting was myself, two State Fire Educator and Prevention members, Fire Chief Taylor, three Tri County firefighters, EMS and Darby Township Trustee Matt Corder to see how we all collectively can get the message out to the community.

We have some great ideas and also plans to get education back into the schools, teach the elderly, those that are home schooled, or families that don’t have any children involved into this prevention just to name a few. Be on the lookout for some information in the near future. We will be partnering with the Red Cross, State Fire Marshall’s Education and Prevention team as well as the local fire stations to kick this off.

With that said if you or know anyone that may need a smoke detector in there house that resides in Darby Township please reach out to me or call Tri County Fire Department so we can add you to the list.

**Please note**

Smoke/CO detectors only last ten years and may not that last that long if testing and improper installation is not provided to the devices. Also the NFPA has proven testing and code on where a device should be installed at the residence. Main locations in each sleeping room, outside of the sleeping dwelling and at each level of home. So look around your house today and test your devices.
